i had a car crash the other day i was parked on sheraton road waiting for a mini bus to move, a coach came round the side of me without looking in his mirrors and took the front wing of my car out.
he got out of the coach and shrugged his shoulders and drove off. i followed him to get his details which were all wrong i'm now trying to sort it with the coach company but not having much success, i will keep informed if i get results.

I left my car outside a restaurant, when I came out somebody had hit the back end and the wheel arch. I was so upset had only had the car for a few months so it was still brand new. Of course the person hadn't stopped just driven straight off.

Luckily, which is not the point, it only cost 600le to get it fixed and re-sprayed.

Hubby driving to pick me up 3 weeks ago. Truck came off the dual carriageway and hit the boot. The car spun, mounted the pavement. Front suspension bolt broken. Front tyre burst. Back passenger door ruined. Petrol cap ruined. Rear light broken. Rear tyre cut.

Owner of truck said he would pay for everything. Car into garage, 5 days later got it back!

Brand new tyre in boot missing. Replaced with one with a patch on it. Someone else's front tyre replaced our one. Rear tyre only glued. Rear light still broken. Front seat absolutely filthy with grease, oil etc. Half a tank of petrol used. Ashtray used - never been used before.

Spoke to owner of truck, bringing tyres and rear light unit from Cairo.

Due back tomorrow so will keep you posted.

The only bright spot, my husband was okay.

I have only driven a few times here and it wasn't as bad as i expected. The roads are quite good and I like all the dual carriage ways, saves me having to think what side of the road I have to drive on!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a shame about the crazy drivers

I drive for a living but driving in Egypt is not my idea of fun

We've just bought a new car and already somebodys reversed into it, hubby's caught the front bumper on a high curb and yesterday I saw some damage to the bottom side rim!!!! hubby denies it was his doing, but I'm not so sure! aaaggghhh soooo annoying. I enjoy driving here in Sharm el Sheikh apart from when people make 2 lanes into 3! and the speed humps are annoying. I'm currently applying for my Egyptian driving licence....it's turning into a marathon event, when I finally get it I'll post the information for anybody else who's interested in getting themselves one.

Are you going to take the test? So difficult! Drive through two cones and then reverse back through the cones!

It's an insult to make us do it really, after the tests we go through in England.

But you do have to do the on-line written test first in Arabic...that's the tricky one. I know in Luxor the girl that monitors the test will do it for you if you cannot read Arabic...that way you get 100%

I was told that if you produce a European license in Hurghada, you will get an Egyptian License without having to do a test - Is this TRUE ? or just a RUMOUR ?

I hope this is true cos this is what I've been told as well...they seem to change the rules depending on the person if you ask me. This is the reason I'm going for my licence now as my international one runs out next month. You're supposed to have a medical first as well but a few le in the right hand takes care of it!!!

Does everyone have their obligatory First Aid Kit - metal box with Arabic writing on top, and a warning triangle?

Obviously the Red Sea isn't a place to have a new car

Luxor isn't either. We crashed ours really bad after just six months, I was sooo sad! Thanks to the airbag no-one was hurt, just lucky the driver was alone in the car.
