Hi, All.
Well, it has finally happened - we seem to have burned out on Luxor. Hurghada looks better and better.

Question 1. Do I recall correctly that there are several hospitals in Hurghada, That they have formed and alliance for insurance purposes. Can someone confirm this and, best of all, give me some idea of insurance cost and coverage?

2. Would anyone know if there is a cardiac catheterization lab at a hospital in Hurghada? I have had multiple heart attacks and I would need such a facility in the future.

3. We would be looking (ideally) for a free-standing house with garden, but could do with a ground floor flat with garden. We have a dog who we keep away from the public, at least here in Luxor, because of the way they treat dogs here - abuse and poison.

Also, a LOT of room! Here we fully fill about 240 meters with furniture!! We would certainly expect to cut down!!!!!

It would not be necessary to be IN Hurghada, maybe a better value could be found OUTSIDE of the city a little ways.

Any ideas on what we might have to spend?

All ideas welcome as we just may have a buyer here!

Certainly a 1 -2 day visit is in order to look things over in more detail - BUT I must point out that the question of cardiac care is the only real deal-breaker.

V. Best to all,
Scott & Sharon

WOW! A big thanks ! AND a big mea culpa! I just found your earlier msg about the plan.. Sorry!

I'll start trying to call the major hospitals because as I said - the cath lab will be a deal-breaker.

Thanks again for the fast answer. Maybe meet you soon - Insh' Allah!

Best,
Scott

Hi Scott,

Again, I've refound the info on the insurance as well as a bit of detail about how the El Gouna hospital handles it.

I have a feeling EG Hospital willhave what you need due to the type of clientelle to be found hanging around El Gouna (ie. monied!).

http://www.elgounahospital.com.eg/

A health insurance package has been made especially for foreign residents.

The price for a complex package is about 1500 LE per year. You get the insurance at the Nile Hospital, El Gouna Hospital, El Salam Hospital and Red Sea Hospital in Hurghada. You will be able to get more info from the hospitals.

The Nile package coverage is without limit for cost, easy access: no pre-examination, all ages, for women free deliveries and a pay-back-system for renewers. also free post-mortem-storage. Mr. Green

Royal Care International has 3 packages 1000 LE per annum, 1500 LE and 2000 LE.

MEDICAL SERVICE PROGRAM
EL GOUNA HOSPITAL

El Gouna Hospital offers a very special Medical Service Program to all residents of the Red Sea, Egyptians and foreigners. This program covers all services of the El Gouna Hospital (see exact specification on the application form) and was created to cover the risks of high expenses in the hospital someone could face in case of an accident or illness. Treatment for inpatients and outpatients is covered. Minimum time period to join is 3 months, ideal for foreigners with short term contracts in the Red Sea.

It even makes sense to join, if you have insurance in your country. You will avoid complicated procedures in refunding the money you paid to the hospital in Egypt and it covers more than insurance cases only. You are welcome to visit the hospital for a medical check-up including all tests necessary, for any need of a doctor, independent if you are sick or just want tobe sure about your health status.

Let's have a short look to two cases not being covered by the program: pregnancy and birth during the 1st year of joining the program and dental services. For a foreigner it has even for the excluded cases a big advantage: if there are any charges not covered by the program, the prices for Egyptians are applicable and for the dental services you get on top of that a further discount of 20% on the prices for Egyptians.

The hospital itself is a first class private hospital with state of the art equipment and excellent doctors and nurses. A standard that is hard to find, even in Europe. If you are Egyptian and want to enjoy the services of a private hospital have a look at this program. If you are a foreigner living here in Egypt and being insured at home it makes sense to join, if you are here without having insurance it is a must. Attractive group discounts!

There was a thread on the blue side about a specialist cardiac unit in Aswan that was being publicised by Magdi Yacoub. That might be worth looking into as well Scott Smile

You should try to search some cardiac catheterization laboratory in some other hospitals. I am sure that there are lots of laboratories that you could find.

Thank you all kindly for the good advice. Here are some results:

1. It appears that there is no Egyptian health insurance scheme available to me as they all seem to cut off at age 55 (which I would be happy to be again!!!).

2. For full cardiac analysis and intervention a hospital should have a cardiac catheterization Lab. This enable angiographies (balloons), stents, etc. It appears there is no such facility on the Red Sea..

3. Aswan is the newest, in every way, but, in an emergency situation the 3 hour drive could be fatal.

4. Luxor International Hospital has a Cardiac cath lab and they do about 10 procedures per week. Not a lot but at least it is a capability. Parenthetically, my hospital in the uS had 7 cath labs and did as many as 70 - 80 procedures per day!!! Not to mention our over 600 heart transplants!! Cost here for a balloon angioplasty would be about 10 000 le and a stent would be about 14 000le. Not really bad considering that in the US (of course under insurance) the cost would be more like $30 000 to $40 000.

So, for me, I guess the choice is stay here and recite 'Insh' Allah!"!

Again, thanks all, esp. Lee for all the legwork - you all are very kind.

Best to all,
Scott
