Eid - How do you celebrate it?

Post by FABlux »

I understand that iftar is effectively a feast every night for a month so how do you then celebrate Eid? With more food :oo or is it just the new clothes etc?

New Clothes, Toys for kids and tons of the pastry called Kahk. (You've probably seen Kahk in the shops it looks a bit like a pastry biscuit kind of thing drenced in icing sugar)

The first day is normally quite quiet - it's a day for families to be together, watch tv and maybe go out for a stroll in the evening to show off their new clothes.
The second day - families normally go and invade each other taking gifts of Kahk. Or go out and amuse themselves in gardens and green areas in the evening - up here they have rented horses that race up and down the street making it really annoying.

The third day is more of the same - going out and sometimes doing touristy things.

If families are wealthy enough - they sometimes go and spend the three days in a swanky hotel - and a number of hotels make a minimum charge for Egyptians at this time to try to keep the numbers down of day visitors.

Iftar is more properly "breaking of the fast"
Eid is the "Feast"
Woo Hoo!!!!! I've got a signature!
