Oh wow - Mr. C and I visited Candys Backshop on Sunday. Their doughnuts are the real thing. Not heavy and stodgy, but very light. Absolutely delicious. Unfortunately the cheesecake wasn't ready for eating - perhaps next time.

Next door is Bistro Brigitte - Brigitte is Belgian and does a variety of meals. She let us try her Belgian Fries with tartare sauce (home made). Again delicious.

We are going to visit again and try the Goulash so will let you all know, as I love goulash.

Has anyone else tried these places? They are right beside the car park at the Esplanada Mall.

Hi all, I have to agree with semsema the doughnuts are fab. Bought 6 for me and other half i had 2 and he scoffed the rest, no holding him back if he likes it. Have had the bread rolls and the brown bread from there and they have never let me down. xx

I was bamboozled too! I wondered if it was a bikeshop!

What kind of doughnuts, ring or filled (The answer to this question could possibly have me hurtling over to your corner of Egypt as fast as my little stubby legs will go!)

They are filled with jam with a light dusting of icing sugar on top, so get yourself across here!

Keefy - I must admit that it was the usual mis-spelling on the sign and should read 'bookshop'. No it is correct.

I have been drooling on the thread listening to reports of doughnuts, ozzing with jam, icing sugar, so well had to make a confession. I am a diebetic and I blew my sugar levels to the roof last week.

Myself, Hurghadalady and our 2 dearest friends launched ourselves on El Gouna Marina last week for a coffee (just a coffee of course) and there behold "the cake shops of cake shops", loaded with all manner of delicious fresh cream cakes, pastries loaded with fresh fruit, nuts etc.etc. Well our eyes popped out of our heads and we proceeded to order a cake each with our coffee. Not been greedy people this graduated to us all having 2 cakes each as we sat in the sun like 4 stuffed pigs. Not to be content on eating 8 cakes between us, we decided that this was not enough and once again raided the shop, taking away a further 11 cakes for later !

Now thats what I call naughty but nice.

101% recommended this cake & coffee shop at El Gouna Marina - but tell us if your going, cos we will need to get there before you first.

p.s. and f your my family doctor reading this I just wanted to say sorry

[face=Comic Sans MS]I looked at the heading too and got very confused. Having gone through all the various permutations, and coming up with some of the obvious and/or more outrages conclusions, I'm wondering if it should really be Candys Bakeshop. :? [/face]

I know exactly what you are saying about the cake shop in El Gouna. Just before Christmas he always does 'specials' and it is well worth a trip. Purely in the interests of keeping everyone else informed of course.

What are you lot like - no restraint at all- I really do have green eyes but they are even greener with envy now.

As for the name of the shop - I don't care what it should be called, will be visiting there again this Sunday morning with no thoughts of guilt even entering my mind.

If I wasn't so lazy I would make doughnuts, filled with jam and rolled in sugar, but what the heck, life is too short. :)

The cake shop is called "Seven Stars" it is in the bow of the Marina, the restaurant I think belongs to the mother of the owner and she specialises in Chinese and International. The owner very considerately added a cake shop on the side bless her. It has been there for years and is very well known, I pop in frequently with my family and friends just for the cakes.

I don't actually see whats wrong with 19 cakes between 4 people do you??? The lemon merangue was delicious I have to say. Spike is built like a matchstick, I thought it was a good idea to try and fatten him up a bit, no excuse for Nilegoddess, Egyptdiver or myself except, we didn't want him to eat on his own!!!! We are really very considerate, I think. :)
